Whew! What a whirlwind! I have not updated in awhile!
Our June meeting went well...the film could have been louder (Ill bring extra speakers next time) but it was still great.
Our July meeting was tonight and we all brought baby items that we found to be invaluable. There were many things there, but the big hits of the night were definitely cloth diapers and baby carriers. It was a fun meeting, with lots of information on baby care items and many other things!
Next month, on August 9th, we will be discussing Natural Family Planning. Hope to see you there!

June Meeting
We will be watching the film Gentle Birth Choices at our next meeting, which will be June 14th, 2010 at the Ohio County Library in the classrom (downstairs). Hopefully the film will bring us into a wonderful discussion! I hope to see many new faces! :)
I have had a few new inquiries in the last couple of days that truly show me what Dar a Luz is intended to do. I fervently hope that Dar a Luz can be a source of uniting in the Ohio Valley pregnancy/birth/parenting community, and that each family that makes a decision will have the support and information they need to make the very best decision for their family! Help spread the word!!!

Dar a Luz Network
For anyone who is wondering more about what Dar a Luz is, HERE is the main website. Check it out! There is lots of great information there. After all, information is what it is all about!
Your Rights as a Consumer
Our May meeting was held tonight and was a huge success! We had a total of 14 people there, including a couple daddys and LOTS of kiddos! It was wonderful. It was so great to see new faces, and have great input from those new folks. I certainly hope everyone comes back next time, and brings along a friend- or several. :)
We had a lot of lively discussion about our rights as consumers of health care, and I feel a lot of good information was presented. We may have to revisit this topic again in the future to make sure we cover everything, as it is such a broad topic- but a VERY important thing to understand.
So often we are pushed and shoved through a medical system that treats us as lesser, as if we have no choice. You would never go to a restaurant where a waitress told you what you were having and how you should eat it, or a store where the clerk told you what to buy and what to do with that item, would you? That is exactly what we do when we let medical professionals tell us what to do without making it clear that these things are OPTIONS! Our rights as HUMANS and our rights as CONSUMERS are overshadowed by the view of these people as authority. We have a choice, to consent to or decline any test or procedure that is presented. Most importantly, we have a right to the information that is needed to make an informed decision to consent to or decline. Information is imperative, and support in those decisions is vital in success. THAT is what Dar a Luz is all about.

We had a small but great meeting tonight! The topic was "The Second Nine Months/The Postpartum Period". We also had some positive discussion on other topics as well!
Next month (May 10th), our meeting will held at the Ohio County Public Library, in the classroom.
Our topic for May is going to be "Your Rights as a Consumer". We will be talking about options for maternity care, labor, birth, and newborn procedures and your rights as a human in these situations. Hopefully we will have a good number of parents-to-be/parents/people (hehe) there to make for a wonderfully informative discussion!
Thanks, again, to Theresa for the use of her home for tonight's meeting. It was great fun (we had the meeting in her backyard, and my daughter is sleeping covered in sandbox dirt/sand right now. She had a great time)!
If anyone has any ideas for outlets for marketing/advertising/getting-our-information-out-there please contact me with information. Im going to try and post the new flyer to this page, so anyone who can print it out to spread the word- PLEASE DO! Thanks in advance everyone!

Successful first meeting!
Wow, I just realized I hadn't updated the blog with the outcome of our first meeting! It was very small, just two attendees, but very worthwhile! Sometimes small meetings can be great! We basically had a get-to-know Dar a Luz night, with some births stories, and other conversation throughout. I can't wait for our April meeting, and hope to see lots of smiling new faces there!!!
